Bathgate (1st)

English Electric Type 1 (Class 20) No. 20 226 is seen at Bathgate on 26th May, 1982, prior to collecting an empty car-transporter train from the sidings. The locomotive is standing on what became the line to Bathgate Station in 1986, while in the distance, beyond and to the left of Bathgate Central Signal Box, the disused Bathgate Upper Station can be seen. Between the date of the photo and the reopening of the Bathgate Branch to passengers on 24th March, 1986, the complex layout here was greatly simplified and the signal box and old station were obliterated.
